2 months old!

Warning - this is an extremely long post - it's mainly for me to write it all down. so  unless you are an aunt or a gma you are probably going to get bored real fast on this one - feel free to skip - i won't take offense. penn might though. and she holds a grudge.

it's so hard to believe but penelope is now 2 months old today.  i can't believe how quickly these past 8 1/2 weeks have gone.  and i can't believe how much she has changed and developed in this past month.  she went from being a little bum who just sleeps all day to this new little person with a personality, attitude and an amazing smile.  i'm excited to see all the changes in her but also a little bit sad as well because it's almost time for me to go back to work and i'm scared/sad about all the things i'm going to miss.  don't get me wrong - i'm ready to go back.  i love penelope more than anything in the world, but i know i'm not cut out for staying at home.  i need to get back to work and start to feel like i have a life and a purpose outside of her and this house.. but god i'm going to miss that girl.  here is the penelope 2 month update~

Vitals:  we did these about 10 days ago at the dr.  she is about 10lbs now and 22 inches long.  60th percentile for height, 30th for weight and 7th for height - and all of these are trending upward.

Poop:  i'm sure this is very interesting for all of you!  (actually some of you moms can definatley relate).  but the big news this month is that penelope can go on her own - no more suppositories!  we have switched her to a gentlease enfamil formula (i'm take any coupons you all arent' using - formula is pricey)  and we give her about 1/3 and oz of prune juice in her first 2 morning bottles.  and she is doing fantastic.  goes on her own by about 2ish and tthen maybe even one more time in the evening.  and man does that kid love to poop.  she is in heaven afterwards.  all smiles and totally relaxed.  it's total happy baby time!  she still fits in newborn diapers but we are transitioning her this week tot the level 1s.  they seem so huge!

Here is a picture of a happy and relaxed penelope after a nice potty break - it's amazing what that can do for your attitude.  kid is calm as a hindu cow chilling on the changing table...

Eating:  we covered some of this above, but she has upped her feedings now.  almost always finishes about 4.5 oz like a champ and she seems to eat more often now - she was doing every 3 hours during the dyay - now it's more like 2.5 or soemtimes 2.  we try and hold her off for as long as possible but this child is a porker.  she also holds onto either our hands or the bottle now when she eats.  she is taking an active role in making sure the maximum amount of food gets into her little mouth.

Sleeping:  she did her first sleep through the night on July 31st - slept 5.5 hours with out waking up which was amazing!  she is not always that good. but she pretty much does 4 hour increments at night.  we have moved her into her own bed for about 2 1/2 weeks nwo and she does great in there.  we put her down at about 9ish and she'll sleep til 1 then get up to chug 4 oz.  then goes back to bed until 5ish.  then usually back down for another hour or 2 after that.  or soemetimes she is just up at 5.  so it's really now that bed.  we get up at 5 anyway when we both work so it works out pretty well.  and she does a  good job of putting herself to sleep at night originally and after feedings (as long as she got out a good burp).  we put in htere a little bit awake and she fusses/grunts for about ten minutes then passes out.  naps aren't as good.  those are still all over the place and i thinmk she is still a little bit young for a routine and she doesnt do them in her bed.  she is really bad about it during the day.  and since she doess so godo at night - i dont want to push it and have her crying in there and then not liking her bed at night.  she is adorable in the mornings - she hangs out awake for a bit and does her best/biggest smiles when you get her up - so cute.

Discoveries/Developments:
  • Smiling!  so amazing.  started at very end of 6 weeks and just gets better all the time - there is nothing more amazing than that smile.  usually after a good nap and when she has a full belly.  and always on her changing tabl e- she loves that thing.

  • grabbing:  she has recently started grabbing at things and it's awesome - does a lot of that on her activity mat - just flinging her arms and legs and seeing what she can swat at.  she gets her little chunker arm stuck in the rings all the time. look at the picture below - you can see her left arm stuck.  but she seems pretty happy about it!
  • swing: turns out she now likes her swing.  actually i think it's a love hate.  she cries at first when you put her in there but when we turn it up she passes out asap.  i think it pisses her off - she tries to stay awake - you see her fighting it but she just can't. she eventually gives up.  we love the swing.  and it's even better cuz gatsby is scared of it so he leaves her alone in there.
  • tummy time: she still hates but is getting so much stronger with that little head and does a really good job when you hold her against yoru chest -  sticks that thing out so well!  then all the sudden it still drops.  but its' getting better every day.
  • socially:  kid is nosy.  if peopel are over or she is out - she does not want to sleep.  jsut wants to look at everything, see everyone and occasionally grace us with a smile.
  • babbles:  she has started moving her mouth and making little baby sounds when she looks at us - we have little convos.  we do most of the talking and on penn's end it's a lot of moving her mouth around, swinging her fists, grunting and flailing.  but she believes she is telling us stories - so we jsut fill in the actual words from her.  judging by all the fists she throws - this chick is a fighter.  i think she kicks some ass.  (we can still say ass since she can't read this yet :)
  • Fans:  she has jsut discovered the and LOVES it.  just stares at them - finds them immediately in any room.  it's almost as good of a babysitter as gatsby.
  • tv: she also is into the tv.  obviously not watching any shows but she really enjoys turning towards the sounds/shapes.  she will practically turn her head upside to get a view.  and she watches while she eats.
  • baths: penn has now realized that baths are glorious.  as long as she is fully covered by warm/wet towels she is a happy baby.
  • swimming - tried that out this month too - and again - was a fan.  since it's 9000 degrees outside the water just feels like her bath...
  • alertness: overall she is awake sooo much more now.  and she does expect entertainment.  but she is more easily entertained now with toys and shapes and sounds.... definatley responds to objects.  tired about a long day of playing...
  • music - she likes music! we had on 90's jams the other day and kid was kicking her feet and arms like crazy.  here is our dancing queen....
  • clothing:  well - she is totally out of newborn clothes now and is solidly in 0-3 months!  it was soo sad to make away her first outfits and onesies.. but so awesome so can finally wear all her super cute clothes.  i'm making it my goal to get her in every outfit at least once...
well i'm sure there is  more and this is getting super long but that's all i have for now.  i can't even begin to tell you everything about her - there is just so much.

so is definately her own little person though.  cranky and pouty one minute adn happy and smiling the next. she always has one fist cocked and ready - i really think she wants to punch someone.  she still loves carrides, kicking gatsby when he licks her and curlomg up like a froggy.  i can probably sum up this entire long blogg in just three words.  she is perfect.
