penelope's favorite words are "tank you" and "uh oh"
both are adorable - and she must know it - which is why she uses them all the time...
she's fantastic at say "tank you" every time you hand her something. and if she hands you something she also says 'tank you" - sort of as a reminder to you to thank her! she occasionally she's a preemptive thank you right after she asks for something because she's just so sure she is going to get what she wants... i like a confident girl :)
However, thank you does have to be tied to the receipt (or giving) of an object. any other concept of thank you is a bit confusing for a one year old.
Another thing that is confusing is "uh oh". she knows that "uh oh" is to be used when something falls down or is dropped. that can be a doll, a toy, a baby, or even herself...
we heard penny running down the hall yesterday, followed by a big collision, an immediate "uh oh" and then the tears... she realized that it hurt!
what she does NOT understand about "uh oh" is intent.
to penelope, "uh oh" is anytime something falls. so if you do it on purpose -that's still an "uh oh"
prime example - her blocks.
she stacks them, kicks them over, then says "uh oh".. apparently she has no clue how they fell down...
