well penny had her tubes surgery on tuesday the 4th of October and she did great.
we woke up bright and early to be at childrens no later than 6:15. we were checked in and in a room by 6:30 and penny was watching some yo gabba gabba...
she didn tlove getting her vitals taken or being weighed and she really didnt love all the nurses touching her, but once that was over and the ipad was up and running, she calmed down and just watched her show quietly.
that changed when we gave her medecine. she hadnt ate or drank since 7:30 the night before and until she realized she was hungry/thirsty it was no problem. normally this kid hates taking meds, but she sucked those syringes like a champ, when they were gone, she sucked some more. once she realized no more was coming out, she also realized she was starving... this created a bit of a fit..
things got a bit fussy from here - luckily we had the diaper and some cheap vending machine bubble toys to entertain her - gotta love 25cent toy machines...
around 7:45 the drs and nurses came by to bring her to the operating room.
they have the parents walk back holding the kids then hand them off at the double doors to surgery. they explained to me that it woudl be less then three minutes from the time we were seperated until she was put under... but i was still nervous.
especially knowing my daugher and her dramatic mommy clinginess tendencies...
however, she did great... we had to close yo gabba gabba which had her a little distraught. she found the tall, young anesthesiologist and decided to make him her friend.. she kept holding up her little arms and asking "where gabba gabba" i her baby jabber..as he had a small one himself the dr. knew to jsut keep answering her and respond like jibber jabber was actually understanable. penelope decided they could be friends and when i handed her over she went with ease to the young dr - smart girl :)
once she realized mommy wasnt coming she wasnt quite as happy...but overall she did great.
i heard some crying as we handed her off so i jsut walked back quickly and tried to hold in the tears.. kris can attest - i did really well :)
we barely had time to worry because within ten minutes the dr came and got us and took us to recovery..
i have to say this wa sthe hardest part. she had a bit of trouble waking pu and was VERY upset.. couldnt get her eyes open, was super floppy, really confused and tired and hungry. cried non stop for maybe 20 mins...
once she was coherent and calmed down enough to know her surroundings and have a drink we were able to head home.
we walked back into the house right at 9:00am - pretty quick day i have to say.
all in all - she did great - we probably worried way too much for how minor the surgery was.. but i'm sure that's our right as parents... no matter how small it may seem - nothing's minor when it comes to the health of your kids..
a few pics of penny pre surgery ... she was crying so much after.. wasnt going to take photos of that...
of course... yo gabba gabba and pink puppy were with us...
this was the first and hopefully last time we ever need to have surgery at childrens and ever see my little girl in a hosptial bed.
i do have to say that going to childrens was pretty humbling.. seeing people that were waiting for their kids/loved ones to get out of surgery that was 100 times more serious than penny's ears made me realize how lucky we are... and how good we have it with our little girl.
thanks to all the drs. and nurses at childrens for taking such good care of our little girl (especially mr. tall dr)
and we are so thankful that we are the lucky ones with a perfect and healthy little girl.
