bedtime...

i've been wanting to write a bedtime post for a while... it's turned ito such a fun litle routine with penny that alternates between driving us nuts or making us laugh - and some nights both.

starts about 7ish... we try and calm down and watch a little gabba gabba.  we get some warm milk and cuddle on the couh with mommy to drink...

i say - tell daddy night - it's time for bedtime penny.

penny immediately runs to daddy and yells, "upppfff" and then proceeds to cuddle like crazy in hopes daddy will save her from mommy and her evil bedtime plan..

this usually buys her five minutes - espeically if she gives daddy really good hugs

we finally get her away from daddy and have to kiss gatsby night night and giggle like crazy.

next up - pennys' room.

we stop at the door and say hi to the owl painting (courtesy of miss mia)

we go to the rocker and cuddle iwth mommy.  this is when penny pulls out every trick she has in a desperate attempt to stay awake.

kris and i swear that she learns new things every day but hides them utnil bedtime. hoping this new found word, or trick will keep her up longer.

lately it's pointing out the tree and the leaves (wall decal) - then touching about ten times.

next we touch the blankets and say "ooohh soft"

after that it's on to body parts.  head, nose, eyes, teeth, feet, etc - both on mommy and penny.

then she starts looking for her belly button - usually gets upset that she can't find since she is in a one piece sleeper.  to prevent a fit mommy starts with body parts again.  feet, ears, hands...

hands leads to high fives, then double high fives, then patty cake...

this turns into wheels on the bus

finally we run out tricks.

before she starts over we get up and make our way to the bed...

this 3 feet walk is stopped several times to touch the trees, point to all the animals, point to all books, put her fingers in the holes of all three birdhouses, touch the birdies on the wall, and finally kiss the birdie mobile.

finally i lay penny in penny with not one, but two puppys, paci in mouth and mabye 5 other throughout the bed.

last step we play 1, 2, 3, with blankie then tuck tuck tuck penny in.

we say our nite nites, loves yous and then out the door... on a good night - we are done here - on a bad night.. go down stairs, penny screams, and repeat steps 1 through 37 above...

sounds like the quite the ordeal... but not going to lie - i love it :)

i love her attempts to stall and i love our quiet mommy/penny time.  you dont get a lot of one on one time where a 16 month old will give you her full attention and sit on your lap - so i treasure our little bedtime routine... and hope it continues :)
